Smart Growth on the Ground: Maple Ridge and Squamish Updates

The District of Maple Ridge has become the first municipality in BC to adopt a Smart Growth on the Ground concept plan. On April 12, 2005, the District Council voted to adopt the "Maple Ridge Town Centre Concept Plan" in principle for the historic downtown area of Maple Ridge. To read the executive summary please view the Maple Ridge concept plan.

Also in April, the Smart Growth on the Ground charrette was held in Squamish. At this four day event, the SGOG team assisted local citizens, officials, and key stakeholders in an intensive, collaborative design process. Dozens of drawings were created to illustrate a local vision of sustainable development. To view highlights of their recommendations, please visit the Squamish concept plan.

Community Assistance Program Updates

Here at Smart Growth BC there's nothing our Community Assistance Program (CAP) likes more than visiting communities around the province! Recent activities have sated our appetite in this regard. From the chilly waters washing up on the shores of Ucluelet to the mountains of the Lizard Range rising above Fernie's historic town centre, we find more and more communities eager to implement efficient land use and development patterns. Find out more here.

Smart Growth BC is a provincial non-governmental organization devoted to fiscally, socially and environmentally responsible land use and development. Working with community groups, businesses, municipalities and the public, we support the creation of more livable communities in British Columbia.
